Hello April

It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain

march 02

Time flies, sometimes we fly with it, and sometimes it just drags us along.  Lately I’ve been flying on the wings of much to accomplish, plan for, and loved ones to help and be with.  Each day has an agenda of stuff to accomplish and a list to check off.  I must admit, I find it exhilarating to be so busy once again.  It’s a happy time around here….tax season, spring, a shower and wedding to plan, and time with my favorite peoples, with a few snatched moments to work at art projects.

march 02Indoors or out, no one relaxes in March, that month of wind and taxes, the wind will presently disappear, the taxes last us all the year. ~Ogden Nash

I love watching the trees bud out each day, the snow melt away and the greening of our Mitten.  The birds are singing once again, and we’ve had days with the windows open.

I am watching a sweet dog for a few days, Maggie, and we are enjoying a morning walk together.  She’s sending me mental telepathy here….walk, walk, walk…..this is what I miss about having a dog.  She accepts no excuses!

We enjoyed a few outings in March, the urge to escape these walls was great.  We went to the new aquarium that opened at Great Lakes Crossing, and to the zoo….all were interesting distractions and I especially enjoyed watching little eyes take in the new sights and sounds.

The aquarium deserves a blob post all its own, as Jeff captured some beautiful images.

A few images from our visit to the Detroit Zoo:

It was CCCChilly, still. And the Littles were most interested in exploring the environment.

The zoo deserves its own post too!

The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. ~Henry Van Dyke

The month ahead promises to be a memorable one.  We have Jackie’s bridal shower, mid month.  Also I have this house and yard to whip into shape for the upcoming wedding reception in our backyard on May 30.   Spring cleaning, sprucing up, and various projects will be on the agenda.   But in the end, the wedding will happen regardless of how much I manage to finish.  Nothing like a party deadline to open one’s eyes about the less than lovely aspects of your home.  It’s a way to get things in shape and be able to enjoy the rewards long past the event.

We wish you a happy and blessed Easter!

Two weeks

I am always amazed and entertained by forcing bulbs.  Especially Amaryllis.    I planted this bulb about Thanksgiving.  Here it is on December 10.

I might need an army of these to get me through the winter!

Working weekend

…..for Jeff.  He surprised me by finishing the doorwall project that wasn’t slated to be done until spring!  The weather was mild, so he got busy (as if that’s anything new!)

I think the new sliding door looks wonderful!  It just belongs there.  And, goodness, the light it lets into the house.  Can’t wait for spring to make this area alive with color and plants.

We have a new deck…..its BIG!

Still have lots of finishing to do, and the upper deck by the porch still has to be resurfaced.

We had a work crew here on Saturday, Jeff, Derek, Kevin and Kevin’s dad, Chris!  They were an excellent team, worked together ti get all those deck boards cut and screwed down.

It was a lot of work!

I am ever so grateful to them!

The sliding door may or may not be installed this year….so much work to do and so little daylight  and good weather left.

Now our big family won’t have to squeeze onto a little deck.  Spaciousness is such a luxury!

Still dwelling 0n summer

People don’t notice whether it’s summer or winter when they’re happy. –Anton Chekov

Here we are, well past Labor Day.  I cannot fathom how quickly summer passed and I am not ready for the weather to turn, the green to fade, the chill in the air.    Usually I am very aware of the summer season, but this one just seemed to pass unnoticed.  Perhaps it has to do with the busyness of life, perhaps with the many changes that  happened with the people I know and love and am inseparably connected to.  It seems my mind was on these peoples and events, rather than breathing in the fresh green warmth of the passing season.

Early September, a time for fresh starts….ingrained in me from my school days, and continued with my own children.  And now grandchildren.  Colton started school a week or so ago!  Kindergarten, and full day kindergarten at that!  And he rides the bus to school.  He was very excited to start and his experience has been very positive.  Hard on his mama though.  I remember how she feels.

August is one of my favorite months.  The days themselves are bright and long.  This August was spent “in waiting”….with torn up driveway and a messy yard.  But now the cement is poured!  And oh what a nice polish the new driveway gives to the appearance of our home.  Jeff (aka, the Energizer Bunny) continues to work on the finishing touches….the grading and edges of the areas next to the new drive.  Not to mention, what feels like,  the other five hundred projects going on around here!

Jeff has had wonderful help from  Derek (dad of the twins) and Kevin (almost son-in-law)….they are generous with their time and strength and we so appreciate it.  Kevin lives near us, and often comes over after work to help Jeff.    Jeff’s brother John also came over last Saturday, with his tractor, and helped the guys move gravel!  I think tomorrow is another work day for them, including our son TJ…..hopefully grass will be planted and maybe even progress on the deck!

I’ve got a few photos of the twins to share….they are 10 months old now.

Aubree couldn’t resist touching the wedding gown her Aunt Jackie was trying on….

Dylan is all over the place, but not walking quite yet.

She’s not far behind…

There’s “Bitty B”:

And her silly brother….”Bean”

Yes, they have nicknames.  My family can’t help themselves.

I’ve  finished a mosaic project, took me all summer!  A table…now its on my porch, but will eventually live in the gazebo with its matching chairs….

This pre-grout photo shows the colors quite true:

The Sweet Autumn Clematis is blooming…..

It smells as delicious as it looks….

Autumn is near,  I feel the chill in the air, the foliage is fading, and so is the daylight….and Dancing with the Stars is starting.  Bring it on.  Thanks for reading, have a great weekend.
