Potent Quotable, 10-2-11

Viewed in Grand Rapids, Michigan at ArtPrize 2011:

Thousands of knitted squares make up this panel:

Hanging fiber sculpture:

Pebble mosaic:

Free form architectural “weaving” using coffee stirrers.  Built on location, which took 10 days.  We could only photograph a small area of this structure.

He was probably 20 feet tall:

If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a
friendship. We’d never go into business, because we’d be cynical. Well, that’s
nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the
way down.
– Ray Bradbury

Thank God for those who let their imagination have wings!

This was the tip of the iceberg of art we saw in Grand Rapids.  What a great day we had, and I look forward to next year!

  1. Its hard to pick a favorite Margie….but if I must, it would be the coffee stirrer structure.

  2. Wow. Thanks Deb. I feel like I’ve been there. Now I know I must go next year. What was your favorite? It’s amazing to see what you artists can see and create. And I loved your qoute on this one.
