Potent Quotable 5-1-11

Nursing is an art:  and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter’s or sculptor’s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God’s spirit?  It is one of the Fine Arts:  I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts.  ~Florence Nightingale

Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon.  ~Dag Hammarskjold

In our world of big names, our true heroes tend to be anonymous. In this life of illusion and quasi-illusion, the person of solid virtues who can be admired for something more substantial than his well-knowness often proves to be the unsung hero: the teacher, the nurse, the mother, the honest cop, the hard worker at lonely, underpaid, unglamorous, unpublicized jobs.
Daniel J. Boorstin

When you’re a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours.  ~Author Unknown

  1. I don’t know who said this but one of my friends posted it on her facebook page — thought you can add it to your Nursing thoughts.
Being a Nurse means you carry immense responsibility and very little authority. You step into people’s lives and make a difference. Some bless you, others curse you. You see people at their worst and at their best. you see life begin and end and everything in between. You see people’s capacity for love, courage and endurance.
I’m sure those two gals will be a credit to their profession.
