Tale of Two Beeches

First there was Mama Beech……

but last night, during the winds….she fell…..

I am so very sad….this was the most mature and beautiful tree we had on our property.  She was at least 60, maybe 80 years old.

We are lucky.  She fell in the most cooperative way.  Nothing was damaged, except maybe a couple of divots in the grass.

She was truly a giving tree….

Blessing us with an offspring….not 5 feet away from her trunk, that was also undamaged.

So your reign over the Kolar kingdom  has begun….Mr. Son of the Beech….

I think he deserves a name….Benjamin Beech?  Any other ideas?

  1. This makes me so sad. .. that must have been some serious wind!
Your yard should be a lot sunnier back there now…. more flowers!

  2. A moment of silence here………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..I am so glad I saw her in all her glory on Wednesday!
Should we wear our work clothes today?

  3. I really, really wanted to do the chicken challenge but just didn’t have the time. I’m ready for the next one whenever you choose it.

So sorry about your tree. Loosing a mature tree is like loosing one of the family. That’s how I felt when we lost our ash. Son of a Beech sounds good to me!

  4. name it after Jackie Gleason– cuz that was “SOmmmmme Beech”
    (ref: smokey and the bandit)

  5. I luv the “son of a beech” reference. Maybe you can call him “Sonny” or, if it’s a girl, “Sunny”! But I’ll keep thinking on it.
